HEY.
So its bran new Engine Gp36R
All the fuel is in+kill switch if off (so light on mean ignition on) and am trying to start it by hand but it wont.I did few spins with full throtle before ignition on to prime fuel to carb but not luck.
So my friend gave me advice to prime a bit of fuel to carb directly.
My question is.How am I able to check if spark plug is giving spark. So if igniton module works.
Here is ignition module :

Re: Problem with starting engine.GP36R

Firstly, make sure you are using a genuine NGK CM6 spark plug. If you need one, you can pick them up at good hobby stores.

Spark plug gap should be the thickness of an exacto number 11 blade.

Secondly, who knows where the high and low speed needles are set, so let's start with a known setting.
The needle closest to the engine is the H, the needle furthest from the engine is the L

Turn both needles so that they are closed. Do not force the needles as you can damage the seat. Turn both L and H out 1.5 turns each.

Now to get it started.

Close the choke all the way, put your throttle to 1/2 throttle.

Turn on your ignition

Make sure you are using a thick glove.
Flip the prop hard and repeat until it starts and runs for 1/2 second. We call this Popping.

Now open the choke

Put the engine on 1/4 throttle

Flip the prop, it will start and stay running after 3 or 4 flips.

Let us know how it goes.

Note: this is just the starting point, the engine will need to be tuned properly, but that's another post.

Please let us know how you make out.

Re: Problem with starting engine.GP36R

Hey JoeT.
Thx for answer.
Im sure needles are in position as on this movie
.
Its not mine but I do not touch them yet.
Thx for advices. My first gas engine was starting without issues.(was some old JC EVO something).
So Im trying to learn as much i can on the second one.
I remember on first engine i did spark plug test but I do not remember how I did it.
I cant see any spark when i touch spark plug to engine frame (ofcourse connected to ignition and on).So my suspicious are that spar plug is not working proply.
Im using the ona that was in box and its brand new.

Not sure how widespread this is in the industry, but on 3W the first 3 flips are required before the ignition arms.

Re: Problem with starting engine.GP36R

OK so I did as u guys said and it do not work.No even a Pop.
So i disconnect spark plug from engine and connect it to ignition cable a touch it to engine and there was no spark.
I used different ignition system and same story.
I checked with multimeter V on the cable and was 6.75V
I get rid of kill switch and still no success.
So i end up ordering spark plugs.
