Re: MR Aerodesign 1/4 scale DHC-2 Beaver

Youíll need to decide on whether you go stock with the portal window or do the very popular ďAlaskan Door ModĒ. We did the mod on a 12Ē=1í scale Beaver a few years ago and itís the version Iím doing on my 8í Unionville. By the way, that beacon light mast behind the wing would be a great place to hide a glider tow hook...

Re: MR Aerodesign 1/4 scale DHC-2 Beaver

Thanks for the interest guys! Because this is a prototype for a new kit I’m going to build it as per the plans, so no Alaskan door mods. I haven’t spent much time looking at the fuselage drawing but I notice that I do have the option of the early round rear window or the more rectangular version. ( I might be able to sneak in a glider tow hook though . I spent some time last night attaching the sheeting to one side of the vertical fin and also pulling together all of the parts for the rudder. Martin has devised a cool hinging method for the rudder that I will take some pictures of and post tonight.

It is ; when put on floats which is what DH had initially envisioned .

Re: MR Aerodesign 1/4 scale DHC-2 Beaver

Here are some pictures of the rudder hinge assemblies along with the rudder which has been assembled (without glue just to make sure that everything lines up and fits). A couple of small issues (easily fixed) were identified and will be passed on to Martin for correction. This is to be expected with a prototype. The picture also shows the torque tube and rudder control horn that is hidden inside the rudder. Overall a very nice system and very scale. I edge glued the skins for the rudder and Iíll glue on the rudder skins tomorrow.

Gordon, two questions from a novice builder. First, is that a brass rod or a brass tube? Second, why doesn't it go all the way to the top of the rudder?

It's a brass tube (K&S). The long tube are used as hinge, but also as torque tube. This is why they are long enough to transfer the torque of the servo with some ribs. But, to save weight, they don't need to go to the top of the rudder. The very short nose of the Beaver require to keep the tail as light as possible...
