Why do I have a thing for classic Sig kits?

After totalling my Komander, I got the new one built to hopefully maiden this weekend. THEN... I was on eBay... I really have to stay off of there... I found an old Sig Komet kit with a starting bid of $100, or "Buy it Now" for $130. I wasn't specifically looking for this, but at that price, I said what the heck. It arrived today, extremely well packaged and contents in prime condition.

Sig kits are awesome. Being honest, there are a couple of Sig planes that I've built and flown in the past that I would love to try flying again!

Re: Why do I have a thing for classic Sig kits?

I still remember my first Sig kit when I was 12 or 13, a Kadet Jr. There was a pamphlet inside about the Sig method to learn how to fly. Start with a Kadet, did it, advance to a Komander or Kavalier (Komander 2.0 ready to fly), advance to a Kougar (have it ready to fly and flew a Kobra many years ago), finish with the Komet. I'll have been through the whole program

IMO the sig kits were the very best kits , the early one helped you get you feet wet in building to . MY first Kadet didn't even have die cut parts ,the balsa was just stamped with ink shapes .I credit sig for the ability and confidence to scratch build today ..

Cox & Sig is where it all started for me. Can't go wrong with any Sig kit Dave.

Re: Why do I have a thing for classic Sig kits?

Dave your Kommander looks awesome.
Congratulations on getting the Komet. Don't see too many of those around.
Nice to see you enjoying the builds. I too also got hold of an older Kougar kit
to build for the winter. Have flown many before, but the Sig kits are a joy to build
and fly so well, you can't go wrong.

Re: Why do I have a thing for classic Sig kits?

I love flying the Komander, so I had to build again when I killed the old one. The original kit only has a partial fuselage plan and not much to go by for templates, so I made templates of everything so that I can make a full size plan sheet. The foam wing is available from Eureka (or a person could cut their own), the canopy from Park Flyer Plastics (although, I did previously make a cast of it from my first one), and a cowl available from fiberglass specialties. At this point, I intend to always have one Komander in my fleet.

Oh... and at one point, everyone owns a cub right? I just grabbed the Sig 1/4 scale clipped wing from Superdave here LOL.
