MR Aerodesign 1/4 scale DHC-2 Beaver

I had a call from a friend the other day with an offer I couldnít refuse!
He is a good friend of the owner and designer at MR Aerodesign (a Canadian company). My buddy had a new prototype kit for a 1/4 scale Beaver. The kit will be released once the prototype is built and flown. I was asked if I wanted to take on the task of building the prototype. I quickly agreed when I found out it was designed for the Moki 215 or 250 (I happen to have one ...)

Check out the many interesting kits they offer at MR Aerodesign:
https://mraerodesign.securicom.ca/en/

If there is some interest I thought I would post some pictures of the build as it progresses. This will not be a full build thread but just an overview and hopefully an enticement for interested builders.

The kit itself is very complete with balsa sheeting, laser kit plywood, laser cut balsa, fiberglass cowling, wheel pants, heavy duty custom landing gear and a very complete hardware package. The plans are given on five crisp, full size and colour sheets. Make no mistake this kit is intended for experienced builders as there is no written manual per se but there are IKEA style graphics that show how the parts go together.

I started with the vertical fin and framed it up this evening. I edge glued the sheeting for the fin (this plane is completely sheeted). Stay tuned...

According to what is in the plans this one is 144 inch 12ft wingspan . Their previous one was about 103 inch wingspan. Hmmmm

That’s right, the full scale bird had a 48’ wingspan. Although it was designed with the 5 cylinder Moki in mind I think this would also be an excellent model with a 120 to 150cc two cylinder!

Re: MR Aerodesign 1/4 scale DHC-2 Beaver

Or even would work very well with an optional cowl for a Boss Beaver like N100KL . I have the 110 inch wingspan version from Aviation Design in the Turbo Prop version ..Very different looking nose.

Re: MR Aerodesign 1/4 scale DHC-2 Beaver

Nice to see some interest. Despite the name, I know that the Beaver is not the sexiest plane out there! For those who live and work in the north though these 70 year old planes are still a vital workhorse!

Re: MR Aerodesign 1/4 scale DHC-2 Beaver

Looks like you have yourself a really cool project Gordon and look forward to following along as I really like bush planes. And seeing that you are putting a Moki radial in it, how can it get any better. I have been tempted several times with the MR Aerodesign Cap 10b kit, they are such a nice looking plane and unique on the flight line. Take care
