Seagull Seafury ART power plant

Hello there,
I've started researching which gas engine to buy for my Seafury. It's appr. flying weight should come in at around 10 - 11 pounds.....with a 66" wingspan.
It calls for a .91-1.20 four stroke or two stroke engine.
I initially was going to buy the DLE-20 but noticed that the DLE-20RA and DLE-30 are the exact same price.......the engines themselves weigh appr. 2 lbs for DLE30 and 1.43 lbs DLE-20............
Does the DLE-20RA have issues with the muffler so close to the carb?
Anyhow, shedding some light would be appreciated....thanks.

Re: Seagull Seafury ART power plant

I have both engines and they run well once they are broken in. I would install them on something more flyable until they are reliable. Deadsticking a Sea fury just won't work. Here is mine with a DA85. If the Engine quits on this one it is toast. weighs 30 lbs.

Re: Seagull Seafury ART power plant

Right, thanks.....I'm leaning towards the 20cc since I'm more into scale flying, but the price of the 30cc being the same as the 20cc is bugging me.....I'll get over it eventually.......lol.........thanks...cheers!

I have owned the Nitro Airplane Hawker Seafury. Same dimensions. The fuselage was fibreglass. I flew it from 2009 to 2019. Sold the airframe in summer 2019. I added 3lbs of lead in the nose to fly it scale with an OS120 4 stoke. At Calgary altitude is 3500 feet above sea level. My Seafury weighed 13lbs -13.5lbs. It flew scale but the rate of climb was sluggish. Not enough power if your not a pro with warbirds. Had full throttle almost all the time. Later I sacrificed the scale cowl for a homemade cowl and brought the engine forward one full inch. Perhaps added a 1/4 lbs up front. The plane was lovely after. Seagull is the exact same size without a scaled profiled tail and fibreglass fuselage. Might be lighter at the tail end. However, if I had to redo it with your model I would just go with 30cc. Avoid adding weight, just put your battery further back if need to balance it. The Seafury is a docile warbird compared to so many others. I really enjoyed it. I did not have retract on it. In its last few years I modified the gear to spring leaf.
