Dle 35 ra won't start

Hi guys, hopefully one of you can help. Brand new engine, test flew the plane on Saturday and engine quit in the air on two occasions. Today I have tried everything. Tried factory settings, when chocked it'll fire, I take off the choke, it'll start just for a second and quit. I've tried a rich setting, then lean in small increments to no avail. It just won't run. Please help. thank you Frank.

Re: Dle 35 ra won't start

had same problem and turned out fuel sitting in vent line because the way it was routed was acting like plug and putting negative pressure in tank and carb cant get gas. check your vent

Re: Dle 35 ra won't start

These are really good engines but until they have a dozen tanks of gas burnt they aren’t very reliable. Reset the needles to factory settings and don’t change them until the engine is broken in. There is nothing worse then needle tweaking to screw up a good engine. These engines do not run perfect out of the box.

Re: Dle 35 ra won't start

If you were able to fill the tank then it's not the vent line.

Re: Dle 35 ra won't start

Interested to hear how you make out. I’ve got an rcgf engine I’m working on breaking in that’s behaving the same way. I’d attributed it to crud getting into the carb and set it aside, but now I’ll go back and check the vent which I had adjusted since it last ran successfully.

Re: Dle 35 ra won't start

I had same issue. Problem was a poorly sealing reed valve cage. Search on FG for numerous threads on resurfacing the cage itself. Runs like a top ever since. Steve

Re: Dle 35 ra won't start

Engine starts, then rpm increases till engine cuts out / Fuel not reaching engine
Check for: fuel tubing cut, blocked, or kinked, carburetor clogged.

Try a new fuel line + temporary tank without filter or fuel clunk at check if it does the same.
(if you don’t have a proper spare tank use a Coke bottle drill one hole for fuel line and one 5mm hole to vent into the cap, let somebody hold it

As written back to basic set-up of needles / High an low / otherwise you get crazy
Throttle position for choke and after choke :15-20%

Another issue i had on a used engine i bought:
Depending on how hard the needles have been closed while going back to basic set up
it can influence the needle seat / tolerances.
Basic set up can be far off from manufacturers basic set up recommendation.
Low Needle was 1 instead of 1,5 recommended / In this case I was always too rich until I found out…

Good luck !

Re: Dle 35 ra won't start

Here is a really off the wall one.. Do you have one of those tach's plugged into it ??

If so ,, remove it..

A couple years back I was playing with one on a gasser.. And even though the manufacturer stated that it could be plugged into the ignition pick up by way of a Y cable.. It was a really bad idea..

I tried several ignitions and a couple of tach's.. and the results varied from a running engine to a misfire to one that would start and quit..
