New control line club in Red Deer

Just a note to announce the formation of the Central Alberta Dizzy Flyers control line club in the Red Deer area.

Membership currently consists of a half dozen R/C pilots who discovered they also shared a love of U control flying and

started a club to promote C/L to others, especially youth.

Our first event, Saturday and Sunday, October 5&6th, will be a 'fun fly', also coinciding with the Wordwide Ringmaster Fly-A-thon.

Don't have a Ringmaster? Fly mine.

This will not be a contest, rather, anything goes as long as there's strings attached. Having fun is all that matters.

Our club field is currently the public ball diamonds in Springbrook(formerly CFB Penhold).

Springbrook is located at the Red Deer Regional Airport, on the West side of Highway 2A, 4 miles South of Red Deer.

Flying starts at 10:00am both days.

For more info contact Jon From at 403-896-7175.

Re: New control line club in Red Deer

Good news Jon, we can always use new c/l clubs.
Contact the local boy scouts and the local air cadet wing, offer training days to any interested.
Get permission from the city to use the field in writing. Public property does not necessarily mean free-for-all.
Keep us up to date on your progress.
Mike

Hi Mike, beautiful day for flying here.
Written permission to use the ball diamonds to fly control line model aircraft was actually granted a month before we had our first meeting and formed the club. We've been flying there all summer. As far as the boy scouts and air cadets go, well sadly, the local air cadet squadron(#7) does not seem to be the least bit interested in model aircraft of any sort(I've been trying for the last 6years), and the boy scout leader has yet to return my calls.
On the plus side though, we've gotten a lot of interest from local kids and have had a couple of them fly solo a few times.
We're looking for old Cox .049's, cheap, to put on some ManWin trainers I've got in the basement. They are great trainers, made of corroplast, and fly good too. The kind of plane you can let any interested bystander try out.
I'll try to post regularly on here.

Hi Dennis, to bad I didn't get over to your place this past summer from Fort St. John. But, I'm getting settled in down here in Red Deer now, and you can probably guess that I am one of the guys helping Jon get this club going. We'd love to have you come for a visit!

Re: New control line club in Red Deer

I hope to see you guys out there on Sunday afternoon! I'll be bringing Noblers for sale (.35 & .60 size) if anybody's interested. Also Cox .049's & of course my Coroplast trainer for anybody who wants to try it.

Cheers,
