Warning, don't use YEP ESC's for outrunners in EDF fans

note of caution when using YEP's for outrunners
I have found in the past that YEP's don't like running some outrunner motors for EDF.
Unfortunately I forgot that and today fried a brand new YEP 120 HV trying to run a 1500kv outrunner on 8S. I had preset pwm 16 but as it spooled up to about half power the motor stopped and a smell came from the ESC. Not burning up completely but afterward it wouldn't run another inrunner properly to full power.
I think they just have trouble switching fast enough for the high rpm's used in EDF. Fine for props, and heli's but not EDF.

Ouch.
That's a hard lesson to learn.

Not sure the analogy of the YEP esc’s will not work on motor of 1500 KV. 1500 kv is not high. I run motors of 2400 kv on many esc’s with no problem. Something else is wrong. Suggest ensure the timing of the motor is compatible with the esc setting. Anther possibility is that you have over amped your set up. Also check the specs of the motor and use a watt meter. In my opinion it is not the esc that is at fault unless it is a faulty one.

I had a wattmeter attached and it maxed out at 50 at the time it quit.
Not my first rodeo.

It is not slow either , 8s on 1500kv is around 44,400 rpm. Most mid-larger prop planes would be running 380-400kv max on 8s. EDF run things fast.

I use them without issue with inrunners (low pole count motors).
Just wanted to warn others who fly EDF and use outrunner motors. Better off using another brand.
